Jeanne's Pizza Pantry

So it's Stampede Week in Calgary. Some love it, some hate it, and some tolerate it. As a true blue Scotian I was kind of adverse to it at first, as I am inclined to be adverse to cowboy/redneck culture in general. But I think I get it now. Stampede is more of an attitude, than an event. At least, for us locals. It is an excuse to be stupid for 10 days, and to drink in parking lots and spend stupid amounts of money on carnival food, and stupid amounts of money on western attire, and stupid amounts of money on bootlegged parking lot beer. Therefore, I have not been able to write any blogs, as I have been on a rotation of working, drinking and sleeping.

But I offer you this quickie. After a particularly intoxicating night out partying with some crazy Saskatchewanians I found myself quite hungover the next day. So I had a chill day at home watching movies and eating junk food. I was really hung up on whether I should get Subway or order Indian food for my dinner. I procrastinated this decision by opening a copy of FFWD, Calgary's entertainment weekly paper, and thumbed straight to the food section. Turns out, this week's pizza column was about Jeanne's Pizza Pantry. I had stumbled upon this webpage in the past, but had totally forgotten what the place was called but it promised some excellent pizza. The FFWD reviewer gave it 4 out of 6 slices with many kind words, so I immediately picked up my phone and ordered exactly what he did: Wildcats Special: double pepperoni, jalepenos, and bacon. I was delighted. This is a solid pizza in the Calgary Greek-style. I am adding it to my top 5, along with Spiros, Sophies, Atlas, 4th St. and Dimitris (I know that makes 6....)

The best part about my Jeanne's experience was the service! The lady on the phone was super friendly and awesome, and when I went to run for change to tip the delivery guy, he said, "Don't worry about it, you've already paid for your delivery. Thank you. We are really glad you called!" How nice!

They use a herbed cheese, and a tasty (not sweet) sauce. The crust was decent, and there was a lovely dough ball on top of the pie! Not enough places still do that! Anyways, I just wanted to write a quick blog, adding Jeanne's to my Calgary Pizza Research Database. Now I'll go back to Stampeding! Yee-Haw!
